We want our choristers to be able to sing for joy, for their whole lives.
We believe in providing musical training that broadens their musical horizons and versatility. Our Artistic Staff are committed to bringing choristers to a high level of musical literacy through an integrated program of theory, ear training and sight-singing that teaches choristers to hear and read music more effectively and easily. These are important musical skills that will be used all their lives, transferable to any kind of musical endeavour in their future.
We have developed our own Canta Mara literacy curriculum using created materials and incorporating materials from “A Young Singer’s Journey”, and “The Singing School” programs - well loved literacy programs in youth choirs across Canada. The program includes dedicated time for weekly activities that are taught in a fun, interactive way in small groups, and encouraged to be practiced at home. We integrate these concepts into rehearsals so that singers get to practice and reinforce their new skills in an authentic way by doing them together.
