Senior Choir

Enthusiastic and energetic, this group of keen teenagers loves to sing and socialize!  This choir provides a powerful means for these young musicians to express themselves musically as individuals and to combine their voices to be a force for good.
For Singers Who:
  • Are in Grade 8 - 12
  • Are passionate and excited about singing and have some experience with singing and reading music
  • Are looking for a choir that strives for artistry and love connecting and collaborating with other singers
  • Are open to all types and styles of music
Senior Choir provides a complete musical education - teaching healthy vocal production techniques, strong musicianship and aural skills. Emphasis in this choir is also put on leadership, community building, using our stronger voices to be a positive influence not only for each other, but in our communities. Repertoire is fun, eclectic, challenging and includes a diverse range of musical genres and styles from at home and around the world. This choir sings more frequently than our other choirs, performing at Canta Mara concerts, in the community, and at music festivals or workshops both at home and abroad. Senior Choir is conducted by Heather Fraser and accompanied by Kimberly Cormier.
Rehearsals
  • Tuesdays at St James Anglican Church Hall, 18 Prospect Ave. Kentville
  • Lower Voices: 5:45pm - 8:30pm
  • Upper Voices: 6:20pm - 9:00pm

All of our choirs overlap in age, and it is essential for each young artist’s development that they are placed in the choir level that is right for them! Senior Choir singers are asked to participate in an audition process, where the artistic director will determine if the senior choir is the right fit, based on their age, and musical experience.

The Fee for Senior Choir is $620.00 for the year

As a registered non-profit charitable organization, it is important to us that our program is accessible to as many children and youth as possible. We keep our fees as low as we can, and everything the choristers need for their learning and success is wrapped up into one fee.

We have flexible payment plan options, as well as opportunities all year long to fundraise to offset any choir-related costs. This amount can be used at any time or accumulated over your years with the choir. We also offer a Bursary Program for our families.

Fees include everything the choristers need for the whole year! This includes:

  • Tuition for full rehearsals
  • All music, music folder and Canta Mara choir bag
  • Literacy Program materials and supplies
  • T-Shirt and full Formal Attire for performances.
  • Specialized Professional Workshops and Guest Clinicians
  • Fun performances, community events, social gatherings and end of term banquet

Music education, singing and all the benefits that come with being part of a choir should be accessible to everyone, regardless of their financial situation. Our bursary program for families helps to cover registration costs each season. Applications for financial support are completed as part of the registration process

We are grateful to all our generous donors who make our bursary program possible, particularly Mud Creek Rotary who has supported this program for many years. If you wish to donate to the bursary program, to help ensure that finances are not a barrier for any chorister, please visit our Support Us page.

The Canta Mara Chorister Apprenticeship Program provides mentored leadership and collaborative experience to selected members of our junior, intermediate and senior choirs.  They are an integral part of the artistic and caregiving team and serve as positive role models for the choristers of Canta Mara.
